The BJP on Monday held public meetings across West Bengal to mobilise party workers and supporters to attend Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Kolkata on Wednesday.

In Kolkata, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar along with senior party leaders Rahul Sinha and Agnimitra Paul took out a rally from Gariahat to Hazra crossing (near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence) to campaign for the upcoming programme.

Speaking to mediapersons, Majumdar said, “Shah’s programme will witness a record turnout. We want to highlight how people in Bengal were deprived of their rights due to the corruption of Trinamool Congress leaders. We had to move the Calcutta High Court to obtain permission after the state government tried to stop us from holding the public meeting. Now preparations are in full swing to make it a massive success. TMC’s hooliganism will not be allowed.”

Leader of opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari held a rally at Rampurhat of Birbhum district in support of Shah’s rally. Addressing party workers, Adhikari said, “For TMC leaders in Birbhum, December is going to be dangerous. Their condition will be worse than Keshto (Anubrata Mondal) and Partha (Chatterjee). There is a bhaipo (nephew) in Kolkata. Similarly, another nephew is here in Birbhum. We are keeping an eye on everything. They will soon face consequences for their misdeeds.”

Hitting out at Adhikari for his comments, TMC vice-president Jay Prakash Majumdar said, “He makes tall claims all the time. Last year also, he had given the December deadline but nothing happened. He is a loose cannon. He only issues threats. Instead of speaking like a goon, he should work to stop defection of his party leaders to the TMC.”
