Pointing to the launch of the “Log Sabha” portal by the Raj Bhavan to connect with the people during the Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing Governor C V Ananda Bose of “illegally interfering” and “attempting to run a parallel office akin to that of the ECI”.

“…there are existing efficacious remedies for grievance redressal during the poll, when the state administration is effectively under the control of the Election Commission. The addition of an extra mechanism such as “Log Sabha” not only undermines the powers of the EC and takes away the EC’s set-up to address grievances, but further leads to unnecessary confusion amongst the masses,” the TMC’s March 22 –dated letter to the EC stated.

“In furtherance of the Hon’ble Governor’s efforts to supervise, control, and oversee the ensuing elections, Dr C V Ananda Bose has admittedly visited Dinhata in North Bengal. It is apposite to point out that Dinhata is a part of Cooch Behar parliamentary constituency which is scheduled to go for polls in the first phase of the ensuing election,” the letter read.

The Governor visited Dinhata after followers of Union Minister of State Nisith Pramanik, who has been fielded by the BJP again from Cooch Behar), and TMC minister Udayan Guha clashed recently.

Meanwhile, The Indian Express is yet to receive comments from Raj Bhavan regarding the TMC’s complaint.
