Former Trinamool Congress MLA Arabul Islam has filed a defamation suit against Debjani Dey — a professor of Bhangar College who has lodged an FIR against Islam on charges of assaulting her — at the court of CJM,Alipore. Accordingly, the court directed Bhangore PS to take action and an FIR was filed against Dey on May 2.

Professor Dey said she has no idea about the case. “I have not received any intimation about it,” she said.

Officials of Bhangore PS said they would not go for an arrest immediately. “Professor Dey is a government employee and I am sure she will take a safeguard to avoid arrest and departmental trouble. A case will be on and then the court has to decide,” said Ashish Das,officer in-charge,Bhangore PS.

In another incident,Islam’s brother Khude has been been accused of attempting to encroach a land adjoining the Kashipur PS. “With the help of hired musclemen,Khude was trying to build a boundary wall around the land. Among the goons was a noted criminal of the area,32-year-old Akbar Seikh,a resident of Nimkuria. He was spotted in an Ambassador (WB02 C 0735),” said an official of Kashipur PS.

He said the locals chased down the car and handed Seikh over to Kashipur PS. “He has been arrested and about 2 kg of explosives and other materials for making crude bombs were recovered from the car. The car has been impounded,” he said.
