J&K: Major tragedy averted as Army defuses IED found inside tiffin box

A major tragedy was averted on Saturday after the Army’s bomb disposal squad defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector.

Vehicular traffic between Khour and Palanwala near the Line of Control (LoC) was suspended for over four hours after the IED, which was concealed in a tiffin box, was found by a villager in Nadwal. Police immediately cordoned off the area. The squad managed to defuse the device at around 2 pm.

According to sources, the IED appeared to target Army vehicles as very few civilian vehicles ply in the area keeping in mind its close proximity to the LoC.

On February 14, 40 CRPF jawans were killed after a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the Army convoy in Pulwama district.
