Day after grenade attack, IED power circuit found outside Jammu airport

A bomb disposal squad from the police control room immediately reached the spot and found the power circuit. However, it did not contain any explosive and detonator, an official said.

The circuit was found a day after a boy from Kulgam district threw a hand grenade at a bus stand, killing two people and injuring 32 others.

A day after a grenade attack at the bus stand here, police on Friday found a power circuit used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs) outside the main entrance of Jammu airport.

Sources said the circuit contained eight batteries, including four pencil cells, attached to each other with wires. These were concealed in a polythene packet, which was found abandoned near a police naka at the airport’s entrance.

A bomb disposal squad immediately reached the spot and found the power circuit. However, it did not contain any explosive and detonator, an official said.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Thursday’s grenade attack rose to two, as another person succumbed to injuries at Government Medical College Hospital. The police identified the deceased as Mohammad Riaz, 32, of Anantnag. On Thursday, Mohammad Sharik (17) of Haridwar died and 32 people were injured as a grenade was hurled, allegedly by a teenager from Kulgam, at the crowded bus stand. The boy was apprehended at Ban Toll Plaza near Nagrota within hours of the attack.
