Jodhpur exam results controversy: This week, when first-year mechanical engineering students of Jodhpur’s Mugneeram Bangur Memorial (MBM) University received their results for an exam taken in May, they were astounded –100-mark practical and sessional papers, several students had scored an impossible 137.
The inflated scores were for an exam taken by some 800 students. According to officials, the results released on October 7 showed that several students scored between 103 and 137 in multiple subjects. The marks allotted failed to tally, prompting students to flag the discrepancies.
The results were taken down within the hour, officials said.
According to Exam Controller Anil Gupta, the error was due to a technical problem. “The discrepancy affected all 800 students, but the team has now corrected the marks and sent them to the technical department for re-uploading,” he said.
The revised result was published Saturday. Meanwhile, the error has prompted the National Students’ Union of India to hold protests. The student outfit submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor demanding action.
“This is negligence on the part of the university administration. It has tarnished the image of the university. The vice-chancellor has promised that action will be taken in three days,” NSUI district president Bablu Solanki said, adding that the NSUI will launch “statewide protests” if the university fails to act.
