The relatives of the victims of a major fire incident at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) held a protest against the hospital administration and the state government, alleging negligence by hospital staff. At least six critical patients were killed in the incident in Jaipur late Sunday night. One of the protesters alleged that the hospital staff ignored warnings when informed about the short circuit at the ICU, ANI report quoted. Earlier, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel and Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham visited the trauma centre to take stock of the situation.
Cause of the fire: Trauma centre in-charge Dr Anurag Dhakad said that 11 patients were being treated in the Neuro ICU when the fire erupted in the storage area. A suspected short circuit is believed to have caused the blaze, he told PTI. The fire created chaos in the building, with smoke rapidly spreading throughout the floor and causing panic among patients and their families. Dr Sushil Kumar Bhati, who is a senior professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Medical College, Jaipur, was replaced as SMS Hospital superintendent by Dr Mrinal Joshi, senior professor in the PMR Department, with immediate effect, the order read.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph Monday confirmed six deaths after the tragic fire accident at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital late Sunday night.
He said, "Our FSL team's investigation will reveal the cause of the fire. At first glance, it appears to be a short circuit, but the final cause will only be determined after the FSL investigation. The death of six people has been confirmed."
He added that the bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary and will be sent for a post-mortem, ANI reported.
"The remaining have been shifted to another ward and are under treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary. Once everything is done, the post-mortem of the bodies will be conducted," Commissioner Biju George Joseph said.

Jaipur Hospital Fire Live Updates | 'Did our best': Ward boy rescues people before flames engulfed entire unit at SMS Hospital
Vikas, a ward boy who was at the site of the fire tragedy at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, told PTI that he and other staff members rescued as many people as they could before the billowing flames and smoke made it impossible for them to do so.
"We were inside the operating theatre when we heard about the fire, so we immediately rushed to rescue the people inside the centre. We managed to save at least three to four patients. However, as the flames intensified, we could no longer go into the building. We did our best to rescue as many as we could," he said.
Police could not enter the building immediately due to the heavy smoke, he added.
By the time the fire team arrived, the entire ward was engulfed in smoke. Firefighters had to break a window to start extinguishing the fire, he said. (PTI)

Currently, there is no monitoring, and no one is taking responsibility."
The relatives of the victims are currently holding protests outside the hospital, alleging negligence by the hospital staff.
