A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal publicly invited his Assam counterpart to drop by his residence in Delhi for a cup of tea and lunch, Himanta Biswa Sarma said Monday he would pay a visit as soon as he receives a “formal letter.”
“He has invited me for lunch. As soon as I receive a formal letter, I will go for lunch,” Sarma said while talking to the media in the temple town of Dwarka in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka.
Sarma was in Dwarka to attend Shree Krushna-Rukshmani Vivah Satkar Samaroh (Shree Krishna-Rukmini marriage reception) organised by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, marking the culmination of the five-day-long Madhavpur cultural fair.
“I will go and ask him why he tells so many lies and where he has learnt that art from. I would definitely meet him to ask him this. For now, I am waiting for his formal letter. As soon as I receive the letter, I will meet him,” added Sarma.
While addressing a rally in Assam on Sunday, Kejriwal had claimed Sarma had been threatening him to “put him in jail” for the preceding two days. Kejriwal, who is also the National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had asserted that he was not a terrorist. He had said from the stage: “I invite Himanta babu to come to my house in Delhi for tea. And if he can make time, also have a meal with me. I will show him around the city, the wonderful work we have done there.”
Sarma had on Friday threatened to file a defamation case against Kejriwal if the AAP leader alleged corruption cases against him outside the Assembly. “Is there any FIR or case against me anywhere in the country? I wanted to sue him but like a coward, he spoke inside the assembly,” the Assam CM had said.
“Let Kejriwal come here on April 2 and say that I am corrupt. The next day, I will file a defamation case against him as I have done against (AAP leader) Manish Sisodia,” Sarma had said.
Kejriwal had reportedly said in the Delhi Assembly that there are cases against Sarma.
