Fake Jamia marksheet racket: Five arrested in capital

Nimesh Pruthi (29),Martin (35),Atif (28),Rehan Khan (26) and Jitender (32) were apprehended in connection with the case,Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Goel said.

Pruthi works as an assistant manager in a brand realty company while Martin is a business consultant. Atif works as afacility help desk executive at a telecom company and Khan is a private builder. Jitender,who hails from Himachal Pradesh,was previously involved in two cheating cases.

Pruthi,Martin and Atif were the first to be arrested from near New Friends Colony while they were waiting for some customer to deliver fake degrees of BA/BCom.

During interrogation,Goel said,the youths told police that they got fake Jamia degree certificates and marks sheets prepared from Rehan and Jitender. Both were subsequently arrested.

The accused also told police that they have sold more than 100 fake degrees and markssheets of Jamia Millia Islamia University to various persons to get jobs in Delhi and NCR areas.

“Rehan and Jitender were the masterminds behind the racket. After preparation of fake certificates,they handed these over to the three to sell it to the interested parties on a hefty price ranging from Rs 50-55,000.

“They used to procure paper sheets for preparing these fake documents from the street vendors of Chawri Bazar area,on furnishing sample and size to them. These racketeers have reportedly been operating since 2009,” Goel said.

Besides 30 fake degrees and marksheets,police have also recovered seven blank migration certificates,two fake rubber stamps and embossed logo stamps of Jamia,twenty blank sheets,which were specially meant for preparing marksheets,seven blank transfer certificates of the University and other items.
