In only his first interaction with his idol,Zaheer Khan,Rizwan Khan got vital clues about left-arm pace bowling. The 18-year-old,who won the Ace of Pace talent hunt here on Monday, was told by Indias pace spearhead to check his delivery stride, while assessing the eight finalists, picked during a month-long programme.
The first thing he (Zaheer) told me was to correct the position of my head, which was falling away during my delivery stride. He also showed me how to me grip the ball, Khan said after winning the title.
Having been part of Kanpur sports hostel for the last four years and represented Uttar Pradesh in the under 17,19 teams,he knows a thing or two about bowling, but the lad,who bowls in the region of 125 kmph, was mighty impressed by the humility of the big star, who came visiting.
You dont get to meet people like him daily. He was good with all of us and encouraged us a lot today, he added.
Zaheer found similarity between his growing years and those who were watched by him today.
I started in a similar fashion. I had to move to Mumbai for better facilities. Similarly, this is a platform for all these boys, who may not have the same facilities in their towns, he said.
While sharing his experiences,Zaheer asked the youngsters to work hard on their game.
We have provided them with a headway. Now the onus is on them . I would want them to work hard on their game as there is no alternative for hardwork.
Rizwan was adjudged the winner in the senior category, while Jharkhands Sudhanshu Kumar Sharma finished runner-up. West Bengals Pritam Chakraborty finished first in the junior category and Sourav Chakraborti finished second. Both winners will undergo a month-long training in the Capital.
