Two men suspected to be among the three individuals who opened fire at YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s residence in Gurgaon’s Sector 57 on August 17 have been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell, officials said on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik said Gaurav Singh alias Nikka (22) and Aditya Tiwari (19) were arrested near Shahbad Dairy on Sunday night.
The police recovered a pistol, four live cartridges, and a mobile phone from their possession, he added.
The accused, both residents of Faridabad in Haryana, were allegedly in touch with the Himanshu Bhau gang, which had claimed responsibility for the attack hours after the incident.
In a post on Instagram, the gang had claimed Yadav’s residence was targeted because he had been promoting betting platforms. Gangster Himanshu Bhau, a resident of Haryana, is suspected to operating from the US.
The three masked men had fired more than two dozen shots outside Yadav’s house early last Sunday, when he was not at home. His parents were present, but no one was injured. Bullets hit the first floor and the stilt area of the three-storey building. Yadav’s family lives on the second floor.
An official said during questioning, Gaurav and Aditya admitted that they had allegedly acted on the instructions of the Neeraj Faridpuria–Himanshu Bhau gang, which had arranged funds, weapons, and logistics for the attack.
Police said Gaurav, a Class 10 passout, was involved in the vandalism of a statue in Rajasthan last year, while Aditya, who is pursuing a BCA degree from Sheela Devi College in Faridabad, has no previous criminal record.
Police said the shooters had initially attempted to escape towards the Indo-Nepal border, but were instructed by the gang leader to return for a fresh assignment in Delhi.
The Delhi Police has registered a case under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the Special Cell police station. Both accused are being questioned further to identify other gang members and handlers involved. Efforts are underway to trace associates and financiers of the gang, the officer added.
Earlier, Gurgaon Police had lodged an FIR on charges of attempt to murder, common intention, and offences under the Arms Act, and had launched a probe.
The first arrest in the case was made in a joint operation by Gurgaon and Faridabad Police in Faridabad’s Sector 77. The accused, 19-year-old Ishant Gandhi, was injured in a shootout when he fired at police personnel and attempted to flee. He was suspected to be among the shooters.
Another suspect, Jatin, who allegedly provided a motorcycle to the shooters, was arrested by Gurgaon Police on August 23. During questioning, he had admitted that he previously worked as an e-taxi driver in Gurgaon and Faridabad.
After the incident, CCTV video surfaced on social media, showing three men on a motorcycle outside Yadav’s residence, with two of them opening fire.
