A Day after the body of an Engineering graduate was found in a forested area in Northeast Delhi, police said the culprit could be a friend of the victim. Four teams have been sent to Uttar Pradesh to nab the main accused, they added.

According to police, the victim,Anand Raut (22),had come to Delhi from his native place in Indore to appear for a BHEL examination. He was staying at Ambedkar Dharamshala in Paharganj with his friends. “Anand was last seen with the main accused,Rakesh,in the dharamshala. Another friend,Mahesh, had seen them leave the place together, before he left for Indore,” a senior police officer said.

Police believe the accused may have escaped to Uttar Pradesh after committing the crime.

Though the motive of the murder has not been ascertained, senior officers said they are not ruling out vengeance or monetary gain. “Anand’s ATM card is missing,so he may have been murdered for money. However, the way his throat was slit,we suspect there could be some other reason behind the crime,” an officer said.

Anand had just completed his final-year B Tech from Indore. Stating that “he was a calm and intelligent boy”,his family said Anand had always wished to work in the telecom industry.

The body was found with its throat slit near Yamuna Khader bank in Northeast Delhi at 8.30 am on Monday. Apart from the wound on the neck, the body bore no other injury marks, police said.

Anand is survived by his parents and two unmarried sisters.
