A day after he was sent to judicial custody, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued a public appeal asking the people of the country to keep Sisodia and former AAP Minister Satyendar Jain in their prayers on Holi and sought to express “deep concern” about the current state of affairs in the country.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the AAP national convenor accused him of “throwing patriots and celebrated reformers” such as his former cabinet colleagues behind bars while being close to business owners who had “swindled lakhs of crores of public money”.
“I am extremely tensed and worried about the direction this country is headed towards. We have become a nation whose Prime Minister punishes patriots and celebrated Education and Health reformers like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain but embraces those who swindle lakhs of crores of public money,” he alleged.
The government schools and hospitals were allegedly “in a pitiable state”, Kejriwal said it was almost after 75 years of Independence that a “saintly individual” came forward and worked extremely hard to change the condition of the former while another had worked hard to “change the face of” the latter. “This person was Sisodia and it was because of his untiring efforts that the children of the poor were also provided with the facilities that were earlier only given to the children of rich families in private schools,” he said.
“Satyendar Jain gave the world the unique model of Mohalla Clinics and built them in neighbourhoods across Delhi to ensure good quality free medical attention to every citizen,” he also said.
In contrast to these two “patriots” whom the Prime Minister had “conspired” to put behind bars, the AAP convenor alleged, there was “another individual” who had “looted the hard-earned money of the citizens of India” and gone on to loot the “lakhs of crores of public money in banks and the LIC” whom the Prime Minister had “befriended.”
Kejriwal said he was not worried about what would happen to his cabinet colleagues but about “the direction in which this great nation was going.”
“They are incredibly brave men and can even sacrifice their lives for the betterment of the nation. It is a worrisome state for India if leaders and patriots like Sisodia and Jain, working for people’s education and health, are put in jail and those who loot the people are allowed to roam around freely,” he said.
“On the auspicious occasion of Holi, I will spend the entire day praying, doing pooja and meditating for the betterment of the country… If you all also believe that what the Prime Minister of India is doing is not correct and that our country is heading in the wrong direction, then I appeal to you all to also take some time out after celebrating Holi and meditate and pray for the betterment of our country along with me,” he added.
