Ram Kesh Meena, the civil services aspirant who was killed by his live-in partner and her former boyfriend, had stored “sexually explicit videos and photos” of several other women on his hard disk, police confirmed on Tuesday. According to the police, his live-in partner, Amrita Chauhan, had wanted to rekindle her relationship with her former boyfriend but was afraid that Meena would make her photos and videos public.

“It is evident that the victim had been friends with several women. However, we are not trying to identify them, nor have we received any complaint regarding this. We also do not know if these videos and photos were taken and stored without those women’s consent,” said a senior police officer.

Meena’s charred body was found in his flat in North Delhi’s Timarpur on October 6 after a cylinder blast ripped through his flat. Three weeks later, police arrested Chauhan, her former partner Sumit Kashyap, and their common friend Sandeep Kumar in connection with the case. Chauhan later told the police that Meena had stored “explicit” photos and videos of her without her consent.

“Amrita wanted to end the relationship. When she asked him to delete those videos, the victim refused to do so. She feared that he might publish those online,” said DCP, North, Raja Banthia. Amrita was in touch with Kashyap. “Kashyap was Chauhan’s ‘best friend’ and was willing to do anything for her even after their break-up. She wanted to rekindle their relationship,” explained DCP Banthia.

Chauhan had initially decided to quietly find the hard disk and make away with it. When she couldn’t locate it in their house, Chauhan, along with Kashyap and Kumar, allegedly tied Meena up in a chair and tried finding it. However, as Meena continued resisting, Kumar allegedly strangled him using a phone charger. The three then placed a gas cylinder next to his body, opened the regulator knob, and started a fire. Meena’s body was subsequently charred in the blast that followed.

Police said that investigation revealed that the accused then planned to stage the murder as a fire accident. Since Chauhan was a forensic science student and a fan of crime web series, police said, she had ideas on how to make Meena’s death look like an accidental one
