AC blast in Delhi: A 25-year-old UPSC aspirant was charred to death on Monday after a fire broke out when the air conditioner (AC) in his one-room flat exploded, police said.
Police identified the deceased as Ramkesh Meena. The incident allegedly took place around 3 am, when Ramkesh was sleeping in his room.
Hailing from Alwar in Rajasthan, Ramkesh had been staying in Delhi for the past one year, said police. He stayed on the fourth floor of a building in Gandhi Vihar’s E block.
“The room had only one window, which was also covered by the AC. The room had an iron door, which seemed to have caught fire once the AC exploded… Ramkesh tried to get out, but as the door was the only way to leave the room, he was charred to death,” an officer said.
Soon, some students staying on the third floor of the building informed the Delhi Fire Services and fire tenders rushed in, police said. “His father Puran Mal initially said that there was no AC in the room. But Ramkesh had got it installed in the summer,” the officer said.
