A two-year-old boy in Noida drowned in a ditch that had been dug to perform Chhath puja rituals on Saturday night.

A two-year-old boy in Noida drowned in a ditch that had been dug to perform Chhath puja rituals on Saturday night.

Police said the boy,identified as Krishna,lived with his parents in Sector-82.

Police said Krishna was playing near a five-feet deep pit that had been dug by the residents’ welfare association (RWA). At the time of the incident,the boy’s father Rajkumar was working at the laundry shop he runs.

“He noticed that his son wasn’t there. He went searching for the boy and found him in the pit. He was rushed to a hospital,where he was declared brought dead,” a senior police officer said. Doctors confirmed that the death was caused by drowning.

Police said no FIR had been registered in the case and the RWA drained the pool immediately after the incident.
