The Delhi Police have arrested two brothers for allegedly snatching the gold chain of a woman while she was shopping in North Delhi’s Burari on September 21. After the crime, the accused twins – Vishal and Vikash – fled on their sports bike towards Sant Nagar, the police said.
Manoj Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said the men, aged 23, are repeat offenders who allegedly resorted to criminal activities to source money for buying alcohol and drugs.
The police have recovered the gold chain of the woman and confiscated their TVS Apache RTR motorcycle bearing a Delhi number plate, which was used in the crime.
According to the police, the two motorcycle-borne men snatched the gold chain of the woman from behind while she was purchasing fruits near the Burari Chowk.
With the help of CCTV cameras, the police zeroed in on the owner of the motorcycle – the father of Vishal and Vikash – who told the police that his sons were using his vehicle.
“The suspects were identified and matched with the CCTV footage. During interrogation they confessed to their role in the chain snatching and disclosed their involvements in many such crimes in nearby areas. The men have six criminal cases, including the latest one, registered at Burari Police Station,” said Meena.
