Three accused remanded in police custody

A Delhi court remanded Kamruddin,Iqbal and Shahid, the prime accused in the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case,in two days’ police custody.

A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded Kamruddin,Iqbal and Shahid, the prime accused in the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case,in two days’ police custody. The three accused were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat after their judical custody came to an end on Wednesday.

“Kamruddin,Iqbal and Shahid are remanded to police custody till December,” the court said, rejecting the prosecution’s plea to grant seven-day police custody.

Seeking seven days’ remand for the custodial interrogation of the trio, the prosecution submitted that they need to recover the mattress used by the accused for raping the victim in the moving vehicle. They also sought the clothes worn by the accused and the countrymade pistol used by Kamruddin to threaten the victim.

Noting that the three accused are habitual offenders with various cases pending against them, the prosecution said they need to be interrogated in detail.

However, the defence counsel claimed that the past conduct of the accused was not relevant to the case. He further said that the vehicle used for the alleged crime had already been recovered, and there was nothing left for the police to recover from the accused.

On November 26,a Mizo woman, employed in a business process outsourcing unit, was abducted from Moti village near Dhaula Kuan and gangraped by five miscreants in a moving vehicle. She was returning home from work when the incident occurred. They later dumped her near Mongolpuri in West Delhi.
