A bag containing what might be RDX was found in the arrival area of the Delhi airport in the early hours of Friday, leading to restrictions in passenger movements for some hours, officials said.
The black bag was first detected around 1 am by CISF Constable VK Singh. After the bag was checked and some signal of the presence of RDX was detected, the area was cordoned off and passengers were not allowed to leave for a few hours.
However, the exact nature of the explosive is being looked into, sources said. The Delhi Police have said they will be able to confirm the contents only after 12 hours. No one has come forward to claim the bag.
“The bag was removed with the help of CISF and shifted to another place. It has not been opened yet. It seems like there are some electric wires inside it. We have increased the security of the airport premises,” PTI quoted Sanjay Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport), as saying.
A complete inspection of the Indira Gandhi International Airport was conducted by CISF and the Delhi Police personnel, after which passenger movement was allowed around 3:30 am.
