Sukesh Chandrasekhar, an accused in a Rs 217 crore extortion case, has written a letter to the Director General of Prisons claiming his wife Leena Paul is being harassed by jail officials.
Chandrasekhar wrote to DG Prisons on March 10 stating, “My wife Leena Paul, lodged in Jail-16, Mandoli, is being constantly harassed and pressured by the Superintendent PA, who earlier had received Rs 5 lakh as protection money from me for my wife’s safety in jail.”
His wife is also in jail in connection with the extortion case.
Chandrasekhar said there was a court-ordered inquiry against jail officials on the basis of his complaint yet this official “continues as the PA to Superintendent in the same jail where my wife is lodged and continues to pressure and mentally harass my wife in different ways using her position.”
“It is a basic principle of any inquiry that when a detailed inquiry is ongoing on basis of serious charges against a government official, it is mandatory that the said officer should be transferred from her or his post till the completion of inquiry and the outcome of the same, in the interest of justice and fairness, so that the said officer does not influence the probe.”
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has booked Chandrasekhar on charges of money laundering and committing fraud against the wife of former Religare promoter Malvinder Singh. He is also involved in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Singh.
