Two students were killed in an accident in Delhi on Monday morning after a vehicle rammed into the bike they were riding, the police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on the Khajuri-Timarpur carriageway near Signature Bridge at around 8.30 am.
The police identified the deceased as Bakhtiyar and Abdullah and said they were studying medicine at Jamia Hamdard University.
The bike hit the divider of the bridge at high velocity, causing grievous injuries to both students, the police said. They were rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital but doctors declared them dead.
The police said that the deceased were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The police have registered a case against an unknown person under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They are reviewing CCTV camera footage from the area to identify the vehicle that crashed into the bike.
