A street dog was found strangled in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony earlier this week. Police have registered a case under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the IPC and started investigating the matter.
The matter came to the fore on April 3, when a resident spotted the dog’s body and informed police. A rope was found tied around the dog’s neck and police suspect that the animal was strangled repeatedly.

“Two policemen from the local police station came to the spot and took away the body. They took it to the Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre in west Delhi’s Rajauri Garden,” said Ashish Kumar, who runs a small animal care centre in New Friends Colony.
Kumar, a complainant into the case, said, “I and other residents of the colony approached police the next day and insisted that they lodge an FIR. They informed us that the case will be registered once they receive the post-mortem report.”
On Thursday, police received the post-mortem report, after which they registered an FIR.
Police are also going through CCTV footage from the area.
Last month, a man had stabbed a puppy and attacked several street dogs outside the Green Park Metro station. A case had been lodged at Hauz Khas police station but no arrest has been made yet.
