If you are buying a new car and want a high security number plate, you will no longer need to wait for a specific date and time. With a new system in place, buyers will now be handed over their new cars, with high security number plate (HSRP) already affixed.
Rosmerta,Delhi governments sole HSRP vendor, said its staff at the various car showrooms will affix the HSRP,helping buyers escape the trouble of having to go to a designated center to get the work done.
Earlier,a buyer would have to wait to be allotted a specific date and time to go to the HSRP centre to get the number plate fixed. A new system has been introduced in the last 15 days and over 200 registered dealers have been roped in. Under the system, vehicles leaving the showroom will already have the HSRP affixed. This list of registered dealers has been provided by the Transport department. The dealers will provide us with details of the car owner, which we verify and then out staff will affix the number plates at the showroom itself, a Rosemerta spokesperson said.
Until now,14 HSRP centres were fixing HSRP on new vehicles. Once a car was bought,a sticker with the dealer would provide the buyer with a sticker which would have the registration number. The dealer would then approach the Motor Licensing Office for an authorisation slip and the MLO would issue a receipt to the dealer. As per agreement with the Delhi Transport department, the HSRP would have to be fixed within six days of submission of authorisation slip to Rosemerta.
This process inevitably got delayed, with vehicle owners not coming forward, leading to a huge backlog. But the Supreme Court recently passed an order allowing Rosmerta to identify dealers premises that could be declared as authorised HSRP affixation centres. While the process has begun, the formalities are still being finalised with the Transport department, the spokesperson said.
