The Transport Department will soon launch an intensive drive against unregistered vehicles plying on Delhi roads, officials said Wednesday.
In a review meeting with senior officials of the department, DTC and DMRC, among others, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh issued directions in this regard. As per a statement, the meeting was held to discuss a 100-day roadmap to revamp transport infrastructure.
The plan unveiled by Singh included a stringent drive against unregistered vehicles and the implementation of stricter enforcement measures to ensure compliance with road safety regulations. He directed that action be taken against fuel stations that supply fuel to vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, vehicles that ply without a valid fitness certificate and heavy vehicles like trucks that use slip roads to evade challans. “We need a proactive approach to modernising Delhi’s transport network. Our 100-day agenda is ready, and we are committed to delivering results,” Singh said in a statement.
While asking the DTC to prepare a roadmap to address its financial losses, the minister reviewed the status of live tracking for public transport vehicles. “He instructed officials to accelerate the implementation of live tracking mechanisms in all public transport vehicles, including commercial vehicles,” said an official.
As part of the city’s transport modernisation, the government plans to operationalise three new inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) at Tikri Border, Mundka, and Narela. These are expected to decongest the three existing ISBTs at Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan.
Reviewing the progress of Metro expansion projects, including the Mukundpur-Maujpur, R K Ashram-Janakpuri West, and Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridors, Singh urged officials to expedite their completion, the statement said. Assessing the implementation of the electric vehicle policy, he directed officials to revise the targets for the new policy, set to be implemented from April.
