Over 50 schools in Delhi received bomb threats through emails on Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to conduct searches on the premises, police said. The threats were later declared as “hoax”.

A fire official said that a Bomb Detection Team (BDT), a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and a Dog Squad rushed to the schools to conduct searches. However, nothing suspicious was found, the official said, adding that the schools were shut.

This is the second time this week that schools in the national capital received such emails — with 32 private schools receiving such threats on Monday that were also declared as “hoax” later.

The sender of the emails used a Virtual Private Network (VPN), an official said.

The official added the common email read, “We are the Terrorizers 111 group. We have planted explosives inside your building, and others across the city. Devices include high-yield C4 bombs and timed charges placed in classrooms, auditoriums, staff rooms, and school buses, designed to cause maximum casualties. We have breached your IT systems, extracted student and staff data, and compromised all security cameras.”

“We are monitoring your actions in real time. Transfer 2000 USD to Ethereum address: Oxce20fe57b6700cc7a7f912b24f3514e288fe2d8f; within 48 hours, or we will detonate the bombs. Evacuate all schools and suspend operations immediately to avoid loss of life. Any attempt to contact authorities will trigger immediate detonation and public release of your sensitive data. Terrorizers 111 Group does not forgive or forget. Payment is your only option to prevent disaster. Act now,” it also read.

The official added that the cyber wing of the district police and the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) were trying to find out the identity of the sender.
