In yet another case of alleged high-handedness by the UP Police,a scrap dealer was assaulted after his car bumped into a Special Operation Group personnel’s vehicle.

In his complaint,Mukesh Mittal,a resident of Richpalpuri Colony of Ghaziabad, alleged he was taken to a police post and freed only after his relatives gave money to repair the policeman’s Santro car. Mittal claimed his car, also a Santro, bumped into the other car which braked suddenly. “Four SOG personnel got out and started fighting with me. I told them that I will pay for the damage caused to the bumper. The four policemen agreed to this,” said the complainant.

But Mittal claimed that the four personnel later took him to a police post in Vasundhara and assaulted him for over an hour. “As told by them,I called up my family and asked them to give them Rs 1,600,” alleged Mittal, adding that two of them collected the money from his brother’s residence. “The doctor says my ear drum is torn due to the assault,” said Mittal, adding that one of the policemen was called Ravindra by his colleagues.

Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal said they have ordered an inquiry. “We will take strong action against the guilty.”
