A 39-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by two men in Central Delhi’s Rajender Nagar in a case of road rage, said police Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Thakur who worked at a shop as a helper and was also a part-time delivery agent for grocery stores. The accused, Manish (19) and Lalchand (20), have been arrested.
On Saturday around 11.30 pm, Thakur was standing outside a shop when the accused, who were in a cab, shouted at him to move his bike which was parked on the same street. The men threatened each other and got into a physical fight.
“They argued over space to get through. Manish and Lalchand got out of the cab and asked Thakur to leave. When he sat on his bike, they pushed him off and beat him up. They kicked and punched him repeatedly,” said an officer.
A PCR call about the incident was made close to midnight. Police found Thakur’s body on the road and rushed him to the hospital where he died.
DCP (Central) Sanjay Sain said, “On the basis of inspection of the crime scene, local intelligence and scanning of CCTV footage, Manish and Lalchand were arrested.
They were travelling in a cab and the deceased was standing on the road with his two-wheeler. They had an argument over giving space… which led to the scuffle.
The accused then pushed him and kicked him, this resulted in his death.”
The accused are being questioned about the sequence of events. Police said the duo are locals and were returning from a party. Manish is involved in two criminal cases, said police.
