A 24-year-old man with hearing and speaking disability was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man, who later died, during a road rage incident in South West Delhi’s Palam village area Saturday, the police said Tuesday. The accused, identified as Karan Arora, manager at a club in Gurgaon, was arrested within two hours of the alleged assault.

According to the police, a control room call was received at the Palam village police station reporting about a person lying unconscious on the ground. The police team reached the spot and found a scooter belonging to the victim, identified as Kapil, 31, who had been taken to Indira Gandhi Hospital, Dwarka, where the doctors declared him dead.

The police investigation revealed that the accused got into an altercation with the victim over their vehicles brushing with each other. The matter soon escalated into a violent fight, during which Arora allegedly landed blows on Kapil’s chest before fleeing the spot. The eyewitnesses reported the number of the Hyundai i10 car used by the accused.

The police traced the car’s owner who informed them that it was being used by his brother-in-law, Arora.

Acting on the information, the team tracked Arora down and arrested him in Najafgarh. The police booked him under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“During interrogation, it was discovered that Arora is 65 per cent disabled since birth and cannot hear or speak properly. With the help of a sign language interpreter, the police were able to gather crucial information about the incident. The accused disclosed that he attacked the deceased after feeling provoked when the victim allegedly showed derogatory signs at him,” said Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West.
