A 24-year-old suspect linked to the shooting incident involving Haryanvi rapper Rahul Fazilpuria last month was apprehended following an alleged police encounter in Gurgaon early on Friday.

The accused, identified as Ramandeep, a resident of Sirsa, sustained injuries and will be arrested after hospital discharge, said a police spokesperson.

The suspect faces eight cases, including attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, and drug-related offences, with several pending warrants and instances of jumping bail, the police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred near NSG Camp at 1.20 am when a Crime Branch team spotted Ramandeep riding a motorcycle without a number plate and attempted to stop him. He fled, crashed his bike, and fired four shots at the police, said an officer.

“This prompted the police to retaliate by firing two shots, one in the air and the other hitting him in the leg. He was then apprehended and hospitalised,” a police spokesperson said.

A case has been registered at Manesar police station, and further investigation is underway, though preliminary investigations confirmed his role in being part of the reconnaissance for the Rahul Fazilpuria shooting, the officer added.

The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar, acting on a tip-off about the suspect planning a major crime.

The police have recovered a pistol, four empty cartridge shells, and his motorcycle.

Last month, the police arrested another accused who conducted the alleged reconnaissance for shooting the Haryanvi rapper-singer on July 14. The accused was identified as Vishal, 25, a Sonepat resident.

Unidentified men in a white car opened fire on the 35-year-old singer when he was leaving the Fazilpur area in his car. The bullet had struck a pole, and the perpetrators fled in the same vehicle, according to officers. The firing was reportedly due to fallout of a financial dispute involving Rs 5 crore that Fazilpuria allegedly did not return, sources said.

In his complaint to the police, Fazilpuria said that he got into his vehicle and escaped unhurt as the assailants could not chase him due to the traffic.
