The Delhi Police on August 28 arrested a man, convicted of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl 15 years ago, from Patna after he jumped parole and fled to Bihar in 2021, the Delhi Police said on Friday.
The accused, Sanjay, who worked in an export company, was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment on November 25, 2010, for sexually assaulting and murdering his neighbour’s daughter on October 25, 2010.
Sanjay, a Bihar native, had lured the minor girl to accompany him by offering to get her a samosa while she was playing with her brother at an abandoned plot, and raped and brutally murdered her, said Sanjeev Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The girl was found dead the next day near the Oberoi Farms under Kapashera police station limits in Delhi.
“On June 15, 2021, he was released on parole granted by the High Court of Delhi, and thereafter, he never surrendered and jumped his parole,” Yadav said.
“During his parole period, he had barged into the house of his neighbour and assaulted the women of the house with the intention to outrage their modesty. In this regard, a case under sections 452, 341, 323, 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was also registered against him at Didarganj, Patna,” DCP Yadav said.
After parole, Sanjay, a Class 5 dropout, changed his name to Sujoy and fled to Patna. He married twice and had a child from the first one, while the second wife was expecting soon, the police said.
In June this year, the Crime Branch received information that Sanjay was roaming in different parts of Bihar.
“Intelligence surveillance was mounted at his possible hideouts for nearly three months. On August 28, the team successfully arrested Sanjay aka Sujoy from Patna, Bihar,” DCP Yadav said.
