Police cite IM threat, ask Kejriwal to accept security

Sources said police headquarters had received an alert that IM was purportedly planning to kidnap Kejriwal in a bid to free Yasin Bhatkal.

A team of Delhi Police officers met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, requesting him to accept security, a day after intelligences agencies alerted the police about a purported kidnapping plot by Indian Mujahideen.
Sources said the police headquarters had received an alert that IM was purportedly planning to kidnap Kejriwal in a bid to free Yasin Bhatkal.
Kejriwal, however, stood firm, refusing to accept security. Hours after the meeting, on Sunday evening Kejriwal posted several tweets, accusing the Delhi Police and the central government of “playing politics with his security”. “Police officials met me in the afternoon. Informed me abt threat. Asked me not to disclose it to media. Den dey themselves went and told media,” he tweeted.
Kejriwal alleged that by leaking the ‘alert’, the police had made him more vulnerable to an attack.
“By announcing this, haven’t police made me vulnerable. Now anyone can attack and it wud be said that Bhatkal’s men did it,” he tweeted.
He also questioned at whose instance, the police were doing this.
“I am not afraid of my life. As I said, I strongly believe in God. Will not take any security,” another tweet read.
Special Commissioner of Police (Security) J K Sharma could not be contacted for his reaction.
