On his 73rd birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a ride on the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro on his way to inaugurate the Yashobhoomi convention centre in Dwarka Sunday.
Before inaugurating the Yashobhoomi Metro station, which extends the Airport Express Line, PM Modi travelled on Delhi Metro from Dwarka Sector 21 station to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station. During the journey, he was seen interacting with several fellow passengers, including children. He later inaugurated the new Metro station and had an informal interactive session with the workers present there. Passenger services for the extension will commence at 3 PM on Sunday.
Delhi Metro is set to increase the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 kilometres per hour (as of March 2023) to 120 kilometres per hour. This significant speed enhancement will result in a total journey time of approximately 21 minutes from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
Previously, the travel duration between New Delhi and Dwarka Sector 21 stood at roughly 22 minutes, but this has now been reduced to approximately 19 minutes, yielding a time-saving benefit of 3 minutes between these two stations.
At the Yashobhoomi convention centre — under the first phase of the India International Convention and Expo Centre — PM Modi was given a tour of the facility where an exhibition had been put up regarding the Guru-Shishya tradition and new technology. He also interacted with artisans and craftsmen from the pottery and footwear industries who put up their stalls at the expo centre.
