Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially unveil Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), known as Yashobhoomi, in Dwarka this Sunday.
The PM will also inaugurate the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line, which will now connect Dwarka Sector 21 to a newly established metro station called Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
Passenger services for this new extension will commence at 3 PM on the day of the inauguration.
The Delhi Metro is set to increase the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line, from 90 kilometres per hour in March this year to 120 kilometres per hour. This will result in a total journey time of approximately 21 minutes from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
Previously, the travel duration between New Delhi and Dwarka Sector 21 stood at roughly 22 minutes, but this has now been reduced to approximately 19 minutes, yielding a time-saving benefit of 3 minutes between these two stations.
Spanning over 8.9 lakh square metres, with a built-up area surpassing 1.8 lakh square metres, Yashobhoomi was developed at a cost around Rs. 5400 crore. It boasts an array of features such as a convention centre, sprawling over 73 thousand square metres which comprises 15 convention rooms, including the main auditorium, the grand ballroom, and 13 meeting rooms, collectively accommodating up to 11,000 delegates.
The plenary hall within the Convention Center is equipped to seat approximately 6,000 guests and the Grand Ballroom can accommodate around 2,500 guests. An extended open area adjacent to it provides seating for an additional 500 individuals. Spread across eight floors, the 13 meeting rooms within Yashobhoomi are designed to host a variety of meetings, each tailored to different scales and requirements.
The convention centre will be connected to the Airport Express Line, which will be extended till Yashobhoomi. The Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station will also be inaugurated by the PM alongside the convention centre.
The new station is designed with three subway: one linking the station to the exhibition halls, convention centre, and its central arena; a second subway will facilitate entry and exit across the Dwarka Expressway; and a third subway establishing a connection between the Metro station and the future exhibition halls’ foyer within Yashobhoomi.
