Two people also drowned in the Yamuna Sunday after they went for a swim in flood waters. They have been identified as Dheeraj (21) and Sanjeet (17). Their bodies are yet to be found.

On the flood-hit areas, Atul Kumar, Additional District Magistrate (finance and revenue), Gautam Budh Nagar said: “About 8,710 people have been affected in the district due to the flood and 4,748 people have been displaced in all three tehsils. About 6,308 animals have been displaced. A total of 53 villages have been affected by the flooding due to the Yamuna river and 14 due to the Hindon river.”

He further said the total area affected due to flooding in the district is 1,590 hectares. “Eight medical teams have been deployed with anti-venom and essential medicines for flood-affected people. There are 17 flood outposts in the district. NDRF, SDRF, PAC and police teams are engaged in rescue work for flood relief. There are 14 shelters established in the district; continuous fogging and cleanliness are being ensured,” said the official.

He also said 15 boats, 30 boatmen, 30 divers and six motor boats are available in the district to deal with any emergency situation. “No person or animal is trapped in the flood in the district. A temporary gaushala has been set up, in which adequate fodder, drinking water, and medical arrangements have been made for more than 1000 cows,” said Kumar.
