Over 62,000 cases cleared in second Lok Adalat in capital

In a statement issued by the DLSA, the authority said the reach and network of lok adalats was increased by “popularising and propagating the culture of reconciliation through the Alternate Dispute Resolution, like lok adalats.”

“As a result of sustained efforts of DLSA, lok adalats were also held in state consumer dispute redressal commission, debt recovery tribunals, central administrative tribunals, revenue department courts (SDM courts) and district consumer disputes redressal forums this time,” the statement said.

At the judicial courts, 201 benches took up all kind of cases ranging from civil, criminal compoundable, negotiable instruments’ Act, electricity, motor accident claims, bank loans, labour, arbitration, matrimonial and traffic challans. They also heard pre-litigative matters and plea bargaining cases.

“Around 61,951 cases were disposed of and the settlement amount was Rs 26.53 crore,” the DLSA said.

“At the tribunals and commissions — including the Revenue Department and Consumer Commission — 31 benches were constituted and 690 matters were disposed of. The settlement amount was Rs 38.44 crore,” the authority said.
