On the run since February, alleged gangster Rakesh Pampu was arrested from Rohini on Sunday, police said. He was accused of gunning down another alleged gangster in Sonipat.

According to the police, Rakesh had been frequently visiting Delhi since early June, looking to revive his gang.

“On Sunday, information was received that Rakesh would be coming down to Rohini with illegal weapons. He was intercepted in a car and overpowered,” DCP (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik said.

A graduate in information management from Panipat, Rakesh turned to the world of crime in 2010 after witnessing his uncle being murdered by a local goon. “In 2014, Rakesh’s brother-in-law, Vinod, was killed by Deepak alias Bhanja and his associates. Determined to avenge Vinod’s death, he killed Deepak in February this year,” DCP Kaushik said.
