Stepping up security measures for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, the Delhi Police’s Northeast unit on Tuesday said it would deploy around 1,000 personnel and install over 300 CCTV cameras in temples and along the routes that would be taken by devotees on the holy month of Shravan.
DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said police teams would work in three shifts where personnel have been directed to guard the route taken by the devotees and the CCTV cameras will be coordinated from the control room.
“We have made sufficient arrangement to maintain peace and harmony among the devotees especially as they pass through this sensitive region… we will be deploying around 1,000 police personnel and 960 civil defence officials while 15 companies of paramilitary force will also be deployed,” said DCP Tirkey.
The DCP said that around 1,000 barricades have also been procured to secure the designated route taken by the devotees in order to avoid any communal disturbance.
“I have issued a list of do’s and don’ts to my SHOs and deployment will be strengthened,” said the officer.
