Noida farmers end stir,allow construction

Farmers in Noida have called off their agitation around construction sites after assurances by the Noida Authority that they will begin receiving additional compensation and developed plots by December 16.

Farmers in Noida have called off their agitation around construction sites after assurances by the Noida Authority that they will begin receiving additional compensation and developed plots by December 16. Angered by the delay in handing over compensation and plots, farmers had blocked construction activity in upcoming projects in Sector 74,76 and 78.

Naresh Yadav, pradhan of Sorkha village said,“Noida Authority has assured us that we will get compensation and plots beginning December 16. All we wanted was an assurance, which we have got. But if nothing happens after December16,the administration will be responsible for what happens.”

The Allahabad High Court had directed the administration to increase compensation by 64 per cent, and increase the amount of land to be given as developed plots from the original 5 per cent to 10 per cent.

Yadav claimed that officials said that there was no land left to give to farmers as developed plots.

Noida Authority officials acknowledged the problem, but denied that land was not being given to farmers as it was to be sold to builders.

“Five per cent (developed land),we can manage. Ten percent is the problem. The compensation will be handed out from December 16 onwards,” an official said.
