Two men were arrested by the Delhi Police on Wednesday for allegedly having links with a terror module and planning anti-India activities.

The Special Cell arrested a man called Aaftab from Delhi and Ashar Danish from Ranchi.

A senior officer said that Danish, a resident of Bokaro, was apprehended from a lodge in Islam Nagar, Ranchi. Aaftab, who is a resident of Maharashtra, was arrested in Delhi early morning.

“It is suspected that the two were a part of a plan to execute a terror activity in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). They were also believed to be in touch with a terror module operating from abroad,” the officer added.

Police said they sought the assistance of the Jharkhand Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) in conducting the operations in Ranchi.

The teams are also conducting multiple raids in various locations of Delhi and Jharkhand to look for more suspects, police added.

An officer said they received inputs that the men were planning “something big” in Delhi and the NCR, following which they conducted coordinated operations at several locations in Delhi and Jharkhand.

The officer said around eight people were picked up, and they are being questioned in both states.

In August last year, the Special Cell had arrested six persons and detained eight from 17 locations in Delhi, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh for allegedly indulging in similar activities inspired by Al-Qaeda.
