Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiha Naidu on Friday asked officials to formulate a blueprint to make the capital a “world class city” and called for its beautification and better upkeep.
In a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry and Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Naidu raised the issues of how moderate showers brought traffic in the city to a grinding halt, led to littering and improper drainage.
He also pointed out that presentation of the capital in terms of maintenance of its roads, pathways, vacant spaces and popular monuments, an aide of Naidu said.
Voicing concern over the state of affairs, Naidu maintained that Delhi did not fully reflect the status of emerging India.
“Does a drive from the international airport to any central locality of either NDMC region or other parts of Delhi leave a positive impression about the city?” he said. He also discussed how Delhi was placed when compared to capitals of other countries which were similarly placed in terms of either economic development or international importance.
