The grandmother of the five-year-old girl, who was allegedly molested by a pizza delivery boy, said her family often ordered pizzas from the Lajpat Nagar Domino’s outlet.
Around 11.45 am on Sunday, the delivery boy, identified as Amit, arrived at the house. He had been told to come straight to the third floor, where the family lives. “I came out of the room and took the pizza. I gave him the money after which I went inside,” she said.
The victim, a student of Class I, had run downstairs to call the others for lunch. Family members who live on the first and ground floor of the three-storey building told her to carry on and that they would join her. She then began climbing the stairs back to the third floor.
“My husband called out to her wondering where she was. My grandchild then came into the room after a while looking shaken and shocked. She hugged her mother tightly and narrated the incident. My husband screamed out for the delivery boy and ran below to look for him. The delivery boy had left by then,” the grandmother said.
“All of us rushed to the Lajpat Nagar Domino’s outlet at 12.30 pm to look for Amit but the staff said he was not there. The manager was extremely rude to us and claimed Amit did not work there. Then, after a while, he said Domino’s had accepted his resignation letter,” she claimed.
“We then called police. We stayed at the outlet for over an hour after which we went to the police station where we were told that Amit had been arrested. A case was registered as well,” she said.
“We have CCTV footage of the pizza delivery boy riding his two-wheeler into the lane where the back door to the house opens onto. He takes his helmet off and picks up four boxes of pizza and enters the house. He then exits after around seven minutes. We have submitted the CCTV footage to police,” she said.
The shift manager at the outlet, Kunal, said, “Amit had gone with multiple deliveries in the area when the incident allegedly occurred. So when the family came looking, we said he was not there. We did not doubt his absence because he had multiple orders and we did not know how much time he would take. We had checked his police verification certificate before hiring him three months ago.”
