A 19-year-old youth was arrested for killing his father using a brick in a drunken brawl at Noida’s Sarfabad village, police said Sunday.
According to officials, the accused, Uday, had been drinking with his father, Gautam, 43, when a fight broke out over money for alcohol and family property. Both were unemployed and alcoholics, said police.
“The family was sustaining itself using the land they owned. A fight over property and money for alcohol escalated, resulting in the murder,” said Sector-113 Station House Officer (SHO) Krishna Gopal Sharma.
Police said they received information about the incident on Sunday morning. Upon reaching the spot, senior officers found Gautam lying dead, with injuries on his head. “Uday killed his father Gautam, son of Kedari Mahashay, by hitting him with a brick,” the Noida police said in a statement.
Officials added that a forensic team inspected the spot and a panchnama of the body was conducted as part of legal proceedings. “The youth has been taken into custody,” the statement added.
Police said further investigation is underway. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
