More funds for North councillors

North Municipal Corporation on Thursday increasedlocal area development funds allotted to councillors to Rs 1.5 crore.

Councillors of rural wards will now get an additional Rs 5 lakh as rural development funds,taking their total to Rs 1.55 crore.

Until now,councillors’ development fund was Rs 50 lakh. “Each councillor will now have access to Rs 1.5 crore for development work in their area,” said Standing Committee chairman Yogendra Chandolia.

The civic agency raised the councillors’ funds by reducing expenses on education,which it receives as grants from Delhi government. The administration will now spend Rs 9 crore less on education.

The agency has also increased the number of beneficiaries entitled to the civic pension scheme.
