Over a month after a property dealer in Faridabad, Harvir (47), went missing, police arrested his wife and son for allegedly killing him and disposing of his body near an ashram in Surajkund.
Police said the accused — Sangita (39) and Sahil (20) — were arrested by the Crime Branch Central team on Thursday, and the body was recovered.
The accused lived in Terra Lavinium Society in Sector 75.
According to police, the arrests were made following a complaint lodged on July 27 at the BPTP police station by Harvir’s younger brother, Kulvir, a resident of Ajronda.
In his complaint, Kulvir alleged that Harvir had earlier lived with his wife, son, and sister-in-law, but had recently moved to a separate residence in Sector 7 after allegedly facing physical assault and mental harassment at home.
The complaint alleged that there were fights recently over the accused spending Rs 7 lakh that Harvir had kept in the house for some work. Following the fight, the accused allegedly planned his murder.
According to Kulvir, he couldn’t reach his brother over the phone since July 11. On July 14, Harvir’s wife and son told him that he had gone abroad. When family members questioned them further on July 27, they became evasive and eventually unreachable. A missing person’s report was then filed.
“Initial investigations revealed that on July 11, Sahil went to Harvir’s home and found the gate locked. He managed to gain access to the house and attacked his father, leading to Harvir’s death. He and Sangita then disposed of the body in a sack near a culvert on Surajkund Road, beyond Siddharth Ashram,” a police spokesperson said.
The accused were presented in court on Friday and remanded to four days of police custody for further questioning.
Police said a probe is underway, and the sister-in-law is also being questioned to determine the exact motive behind the crime.
