A 21-year-old resident of a Faridabad village, last seen on July 21, is at the centre of an investigation after the wife of his friend and colleague filed a police complaint accusing him of attempted rape two days after he went missing.
The man’s family has, however, claimed that he went missing following a monetary dispute with the friend.
The police said a probe is underway into both the missing person and rape complaints. “The accused (missing man) appears to be on the run. We will be following due procedure in such cases. The rape survivor will be called for her statement and medical examination. Investigation is going on in both cases,” a police spokesperson said.
The wife of the man’s friend filed a complaint of rape with the police on June 23, the day the man’s motorbike, bag, and a shirt with bloodstains were found on a road in the village. The next day, the man’s father filed a missing person complaint at the local police station.
Speaking to The Indian Express, the father said that the missing man, who worked for a quick commerce company, had a dispute with his colleague over money. “They have been friends for two years. My son would keep lending money to his friend, who would ask for it on some pretext or the other. Eventually, the sum reached close to Rs 2 lakh. My son took half of that money from our family,” the father added.
According to his complaint, the man went missing after he demanded the money back from his colleague.
Speaking to The Indian Express, the father said, “He has stopped returning our calls (since July 21). But his friend claims he spoke to him over the phone and even travelled with him outside the state last week. He is only responsible for whatever has happened to my son.”
“The money does not matter now, we just want our son back,” he added.
He claimed that while his family had limited interactions with the rape complainant, she had not voiced any issues earlier. “We have not heard from the friend or have been able to contact him (since July 23),” the father said.
