With the capital’s AQI averaging at 392 on Wednesday being in the ‘very poor’ category, the matter of air quality was taken up for discussion in the regular meeting of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
In the meeting, the proposal to purchase additional 14 new Mechanical Road Sweeping Machines (MRSMs) was passed.
Meanwhile, officials also briefed about the civic body’s winter action plan. Sources said that the amount of Rs 610 crore sanctioned earlier this week by the Delhi government to the civic body is being utilised for various activities. Around Rs. 516.35 crore has been prepared for procurement of 60 MRSMS, while around Rs. 86.82 crore will be used to purchase vacuum- based battery operated litter picker machines and Rs. 7.1 crore for maintenance of designated Construction and Demolition (C&D) sites, officials said.
“The duration of operation of MRS is enhanced for additional hours when the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is being implemented”, the source added.
