Amid multiple complaints against overcharging in Old Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), on Wednesday, imposed a fine of over Rs 24 lakh on five parking contractors.
The civic body found multiple violations of the conditions of the parking contract, said officials. “These include workers not wearing uniforms, badges, poor sanitation, and lighting at the poor parking spaces,” said an official.
The MCD’s Remunerative Project (RP) Cell verified the complaints.
The parking charges, the MCD underlined, are fixed by the civic body, and no contractor is authorised to collect any amount beyond the approved rates.
“To verify if such violations are there on any other parking sites also, the field staff of MCD has been instructed to conduct detailed and periodic inspections of all the civic body’s authorised parking sites in Delhi.
The authority shall not hesitate in cancelling the parking contract and blacklisting of such contractors, the civic body further added.
The MCD also underlined that the list of all authorised parking sites, along with their details and parking rates, is on its official website.
“Citizens are urged to be vigilant and not to pay a single penny to contractors beyond the prescribed rates,” the civic body said.
It added, “Citizens are encouraged to immediately report any irregularities through MCD’s helpline number 311 or Mobile App or any other means, including emails or physical copies.”
