Councillor Rakesh Hayatpur, also the husband of the Manesar mayor, was booked on Tuesday for allegedly inciting local residents to disrupt an anti-encroachment drive being carried out at Kankrola village in Gurgaon.
Three persons, meanwhile, were arrested for allegedly being part of a mob that pelted stones at the civic officials who were conducting the drive.
During a demolition drive against illegal warehouses and unauthorised colonies at Kankrola, a team of the District Town Planner (DTP) had on Monday faced stone-pelting by local residents, police said.
As per a complaint filed by a DTP official at Kherki Daula police station, local councillor Rakesh Hayatpur allegedly incited residents to disrupt the demolition.
“The mob pelted stones at the officials, staff, and JCB operators, resulting in serious injuries to a JCB helper and damage to the JCB’s glass. Additionally, an unidentified woman, along with others, misbehaved with the team and attempted to lie down in front of a government vehicle to obstruct the operation,” a Gurgaon Police spokesperson said.
“He (Hayatpur) is among the named accused, while the FIR also has listed 50-60 unknown persons,” the spokesperson added.
The three arrested men have been identified as Satyavir (57), Ajit Kumar (46), and Ramavatar (49), all residents of Kankrola village.
“During questioning, they admitted that they were arguing with the DTP team over the demolition of their warehouse and joined a mob that pelted stones at the officials, when the team proceeded to demolish other illegal structures,” said an officer. Manesar Mayor Inderjeet Yadav could not be reached for comment.
