A 28-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death during an altercation between two groups in East Delhi’s Ghazipur Wednesday night and the police arrested three men in connection with the murder.

The deceased was identified as Vikas Walchera, a resident of Faridabad who was employed as a sales manager at a Noida firm. The police said they received a call at around 11 pm from Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, informing them about a man who had been brought dead with multiple injuries. Another employee from the same company, Sumit Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad, was also admitted to the hospital with a fractured leg, said the police.

Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, said, “It was revealed that Walchera and other employees were celebrating a birthday party, and during the gathering, a prior altercation involving a local momo vendor, Salman, was discussed. To verify, the group visited the paper market in Ghazipur at around 10.30 pm in three cars.”

“At the wine shop near the CNG pump, they identified Salman, who, upon seeing them, retrieved a rod and called his associates Azad Mishra, Monu Mishra, and others. In the violent scuffle that followed, Vikas Walecha was fatally stabbed, and others, including Sumit Sharma, were injured,” added Dhania.

The police filed a case at the Gazipur police station under sections 103 (murder), 109(1) (attempted murder), 191(2) (rioting), and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They formed multiple dedicated teams for investigation and arrests. They were assigned tasks such as scanning CCTV and number plate recognition camera footage to establish both forward and backward linkages and to trace the accused, said the police.

The police said they arrested Salman Khan, 24, Azad Kumar Mishra, 31, and Monu Mishra, 28, and apprehended one juvenile boy within hours. They also said they recovered the iron rod and knife used in the attack from the crime scene.

Further investigation is ongoing to trace more people involved in the crime and to establish a comprehensive motive behind the attack, said the police.
