The Delhi Police said Wednesday they have arrested a 29-year-old man who had been absconding for nearly a year after being declared a proclaimed offender in two cases, including the rape of a minor and the murder of his sister’s boyfriend, from Haryana’s Sonipat.

According to the police, Nitesh Dahiya, alias Nite, had been declared a proclaimed offender in a case of abduction and murder at the Bawana Police Station and a rape case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at the Kanjhawla Police Station. The police added that he was also wanted in a case of criminal breach of trust registered in Gurgaon, where a non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been issued against him.

“Dahiya is a habitual and desperate offender who began with petty thefts before turning to serious crimes such as murder and rape. He studied up to Class 10,” Pankaj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch conducted a midnight raid on November 4 at Silana village in Haryana’s Sonipat. When the police team arrived at the scene, the accused attempted to escape by running across rooftops and jumping into a nearby street. However, he was chased and overpowered after a brief pursuit.

The police said Dahiya was involved in the abduction and murder of Sahil alias Gabsu in 2018. The case was registered at the Bawana Police Station based on the complaint of Sahil’s uncle, Joginder, who reported that his nephew had gone missing after leaving home in a Santro car.

The police found during their investigation that Sahil was abducted and killed by the family members of a girl with whom he was in a relationship.

The girl, in her statement to the police, said her father Vijender and brothers Rakesh, Manish, Lokesh, Nitesh and Saurabh assaulted Sahil with bricks and sticks, causing his death, and later dumped his body in a canal near Silana in Sonipat.

Nitesh was arrested but later granted interim bail for 14 days on November 16, 2024. He absconded during this period, and was declared a proclaimed offender on October 16, 2025.

In another case, he abducted a minor girl with whom he claimed to be in love and married her. The case was registered under sections 363/376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the Pocso Act. After being released, he again jumped bail and was declared a proclaimed offender by the court on September 3, 2025.

Nitesh was also wanted in a case of criminal breach of trust registered at Sector 53 Police Station, Gurgaon, for which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him for December 11, 2025. Police records further reveal his involvement in several theft cases across Delhi, including those in Mangolpuri, Prashant Vihar, K N Katju Marg, and Adarsh Nagar.
